Tribal Report

Generated On - Nov 30 2019 - 50433 Cards in 561 Sets

Hello! This is a generated snapshot report for Tribes in the popular collectible trading card game - Magic: The Gathering. The analysis is done by looking for tribes within each expansion and core set. A tribe of cards is a particular creature type, cards that can produce creature tokens up that type and a group of cards that reference that type (generally but not explicitly supporting that type).

A tribe is supported if it meets three criteria:

  1. Creature Count (10) - The tribe must contain at least 10 creatures to be considered supported. For the purposes of this analysis and for simplicity, cards that generate tokens are considered creatures regardless of their underlying type
  2. Common Creature Count (3) - Of the creatures in the tribe, atleast 3 must be at common. This is a signpost that the type is supported within a limited environment.
  3. Reference Count (5) - There must be atleast 5 cards within the set that reference this type within the card's Oracle Text.

These criteria are not precise, and the values assigned to them have been tweaked empirically in a way that the tribes it identifies are roughly in line with other resources that identify tribes within these sets

We assigned a set a Tribal Score based off of the percentage of cards within that set that fall within a supported tribe - or act like a wildcard (ex: Shapeshifters). That score is normalized against the peak (which is generally regarded to be the Lowryn Block).
